Back in December, we celebrated 5 of our favorite friend funding campaigns. These were stories of people whose friends and family had come together to give them unforgettable gifts—stories that have continued to inspire us to stay generous, and stay grateful for the people in our communities. Now, it’s time to take another look back and celebrate even more incredible campaigns! Check out these inspiring (and motivating!) friend funding campaigns in 2016, and let them put a little spring in your step this May!
5 Best Friend Funding Campaigns in 2016
1. When friends surprise friends
Christie wanted a new sewing machine for her birthday so she could keep sewing projects for her kids. She created this GiftStarter campaign for herself, figuring that a couple of friends (who would be buying her gifts anyway) could pitch in, while her husband purchased the rest of the sewing machine for her. Instead, she was surprised to discover more people were thinking of her than she thought! Her thank you note, overflowing with gratitude, says it all.
2. When a community came together to bring an old friend home
It’s hard living 1500 miles away from the people who know you best, and who have known you the longest—especially since traveling isn’t always cheap. This GiftStarter campaign was created by Danielle, who wanted to help her best friend come home again for her 30th birthday. Melissa was surprised to find out just how many people cared for her and missed her. That knowledge was a gift in itself!
3. When your most reliable friend is your car, and you want to take care of it
This husband and wife decided to use GiftStarter in a really unique way, as a visual, motivational savings account. Dae’s old car (which he lovingly refers to as Nicky) needed some TLC, so the couple decided to use GiftStarter to fund the car’s maintenance over time. Now, their Old Reliable Nicky is more reliable than ever, and keeping it that way was a total cinch.
4. When friends get together to support a family
Adam created a GiftStarter campaign to provide a family with a small, but super special gift. When a friend’s little boy was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, he remembered the friend describing how rocking in a rocking chair with her son was the best way to help him with his pain. Adam and several of the family’s friends pitched in and got the family a brand new rocking chair. Now, little Sammy can rock in comfort with his mother anytime he needs.
5. When co-workers become friends
This GiftStarter campaign proved that co-workers can be more than co-workers: they can be friends, too. This organization pitched in to give a colleague several weeks of meal delivery after a surgery took her out of the office and left her stuck recuperating at home. Now, she’ll be able to enjoy healing easily, without having to worry about prepping meals, or grocery shopping. Now that tops off our list of our favorite friend funding campaigns in 2016.
